3 Benefits of Same-Day Crowns

3 Benefits of Same-Day Crowns — and When to Consider 2-Visit Options

If you break, crack, or chip a tooth, you likely need a crown installed to restore the look and function of the damaged tooth.

Traditional crowns require two visits to the dentist. At the first, your dentist takes an impression of your damaged tooth and sends it to a lab where the crown is manufactured. This takes a week or two, and you wear a temporary crown in the meantime.

At the second visit, your dentist installs the permanent crown.

With same-day crowns, the process takes only one visit, which has several benefits. At Silicon Valley Dental Associates in Sunnyvale, California, we offer this type of crown for suitable candidates.

Here are three benefits of same-day crowns.

Quick and convenient

With CEREC® same-day crowns, your dentist performs an oral exam and takes digital X-rays and impressions of your damaged tooth.

If your dentist determines you’re a good candidate for treatment, they upload the impressions to the CEREC milling machine, which produces your crown in about an hour. Your dentist bonds your new crown to the top of your tooth, and you’re good to go. The process takes 2-3 hours.

You avoid a temporary crown

With a same-day crown, you won’t need to wear a temporary crown for a couple of weeks to protect your tooth while the lab manufactures your new crown.

Temporary crowns are more susceptible to problems, from installation to removal; if yours comes loose, for example, it could damage your other teeth or your gums. Temporary crowns, not surprisingly, are less reliable than permanent crowns.

Restores function sooner

A broken or damaged tooth can affect your speech, smile, and eating habits.

Whether you have an important job interview or social event, a same-day dental crown procedure can be a life-saver. It allows you to visit our office and leave with your smile fully restored.

A same-day crown gets you back to normal as far as the function of your teeth as soon as possible. A temporary crown can delay your return to full function.

You won’t be compromising quality or durability either. CEREC same-day crowns typically last between 10 to 15 years, or even longer with proper maintenance.

When you need a crown, or any oral health care treatment, the experts at Silicon Valley Dental Associates are ready to help. Call our office or use our online scheduler to book an appointment, and we’ll have your smile as good as new in no time!
