The Many Benefits of Same-Day Crowns

The Many Benefits of Same-Day Crowns

Technology has many wonderful benefits — here’s one that dental patients across the country are grateful for: same-day crowns.

Crowns are caps placed on top of damaged teeth to protect, cover, or restore the teeth when fillings aren’t quite up to the task.

In the past, getting a crown always took several weeks. Now, same-day crowns are available in many dental offices, thanks to CEREC technology.

At Silicon Valley Dental Associates in Sunnyvale, California, our patients are big fans of same-day crowns. Here are a few of the benefits that help explain why they’re so popular:

They save you time

With a traditional dental crown, your dentist first takes impressions of your teeth. These are sent to an off-site laboratory where your crown is custom-made for you. You then return to the office a few weeks later for the permanent crown to be installed.

Thanks to CEREC technology, your dentist can produce precise, durable, aesthetically pleasing crowns during your appointment. No long waits anymore — the solution to your dental problem is delivered quickly!

They help you avoid temporary crowns

Dentists usually install a temporary crown to protect your teeth while your permanent crown is made. Temporary crowns are often uncomfortable and don’t fit well, which also could cause problems with chewing.

With CEREC, your new crown is made right on-site during your appointment, so you won’t have to deal with temporary measures.

They preserve more of your tooth

When dentists install crowns, they must drill down some of the compromised teeth so the crown fits properly. Same-day crowns require less extensive drilling, leaving the majority of your tooth in place. This is good for your overall health, and it saves a lot of drilling!

They’re less invasive and more precise

When dentists take impressions for crowns, they use impression putty, which can be messy and hard to clean up. On top of that, the putty might trigger your gag reflex.

With same-day crowns, your provider uses a slim camera wand to take digital images of your teeth. These are uploaded to software that creates a new crown that looks and feels natural. Digital scans are precise, leading to even better-fitting crowns than you might get with the putty.

Same-day crowns also are more durable than traditional crowns — they’re made from a block of porcelain or ceramic that matches the color and light-reflecting qualities of your natural teeth.

When you find yourself in need of a crown, Silicon Valley Dental Associates can solve your problem in one visit. To set up a time to see our expert team, just call the office or use the online scheduler to book an appointment.
